Frog Street Curriculum!!! Some of you have been very vocal when it comes to the Frog Street Curriculum...some like it, some don't, some feel like it's tooooo much work while others could care less as long as their children are making gains!!!
My challenge to you is to tell me 2 and 2!!! 2 positives and 2 negatives!! Is there a catch??? Of course there's a catch! With the 2 negatives tell me how could you make it work better. Someone else may have the same concern.
Remember in order for any curriculum to work with implementation fidelity you as teachers and assistants have to ensure that the curriculum is used with "consistency, frequency, and intensity to ensure a child's mastery of a skill (Wolery, 2005).
If a child is not progressing as planned, it can be helpful for teachers to examine exactly how teaching was implemented in order to improve the effectiveness of instruction (Luze & Peterson, 2004).
Now it's your turn...let me hear what you are thinking! Deadline for this post is Friday 2:00 p.m.
Happy blogging!!!
Mona
Ramona the challenge sounds wonderful and I hope all my teachers are ready for it.
ReplyDeleteGreat Job!! I hope all the teachers participate.
DeleteMy assistants and I feel as though this curriculum works for us. All the activities are already there along with all the materials that are needed to implement each activity. Although this curriculum is designed for a full day program, we make adaptions and individualizations according to the needs of our children.
ReplyDeleteSounds good Melissa you and your team are always doing great things in the room with your children!
DeleteMy assistants and I are fine with our new curriculum it works for us. As Mrs. Seymour stated all the activities are already there with all the materials to implement each activity, we pick and pull from the daily lesson. All the teachers meet every afternoon to plan for the next day an this makes it easier to prepare as a group and everybody has input on the lessons.
ReplyDeleteShelia I love how ALL the teaches and assistants at your center sit down and discuss what worked well and what didn't. The sharing of idea's go a long way with a teacher that may be struggling with a certain activity.
DeleteWe like the alphabet letter characters. The children are eager to learn the letter names and the character names and they enjoy the sentences that we say that help with learning the beginning sounds such as "Benjamin Bunny blows bubbles".
ReplyDeleteWe like the daily morning message. It is helping the children develop letter knowledge, phonemic and print awareness, and oral language skills.
We find many of the big books and audio tapes too long and complex to engage three year olds. We do picture reads, simplify some passages, and often read a short portion ending with a prediction so we may come back later.
We find the frequency and number of songs to be difficult for three year olds and often will repeat some of their favorites to help build unity and connection. Our children enjoy "Rise and Shine", "My School Family", and "Skidamarink".
Mrs. Blake and Ms. Megan
M&M girls!!! Sounds great..remember you work your lessons to fit the needs of your children at anytime!! Keep up the great teamwork ladies!!!
DeleteMs. Juanita, Miss Bundick and myself have watched the Collecting and Using Anecdotal Records video.
ReplyDeleteMs. Juanita - I did not know that we had to put a time on our anecdotal notes
Miss Bundick - The important part of the video to me was knowing to jot down notes in every area.
Mrs. Seymour - I like the one teacher who kept her notes organized in a notebook, she spoke about transferring notes to her notebook for each individual child, and what area she was concentrating on observing that day.
Whatever works best for you is okay with me...as long as there are notes taken that I can read as needed.
DeleteThe ladies at Hallwood are using journals and notebooks to jot down notes as we we hear and see them occur. we use them daily to assure we are seeing the true skills that the children have mastered.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the curriculum goes we are pleased with the format. We agree with Seymour that the activities are all there for us and we have to use them according to our children's needs. It definitely keeps the children engaged.....especially for our very busy little people. A lot of hands on and movement.
Delete2 thumbs up!!!
DeleteMs. Bragg, Mrs. Vinnie and myself viewed the video about anecdotal notes.
ReplyDeleteMs. Bragg-I liked how easy the video showed on how to do the anecdotal notes. I will be using one of the ideas I saw on the video.
Mrs. Vinnie- I enjoyed the video. I liked how the teachers used different ways to do anecdotal notes. The teachers were very organized with their notes and in the video they talked about using sticky notes and putting them on the page until they can be transferred over to where they needed to be in the notebook. The video was very helpful as well as informative.
Ms. Douglas- I enjoyed the video. The notebook to keep the notes organized it is a great idea and you will see under the video "Tools for Teachers" it has a anecdotal record card that you may print this maybe helpful when taking your notes.
sounds great!! I'm glad the video was helpful...
